Political Neutrality Council Recommendations

The recommendations of Suffrago' Political Neutralitiy Advisory Council and the business' response

Meeting #1: 2025/01/14 – Suffrago Response: 2025/01/20

  1. The statement "For the good of [Constituency], they should resign" is not a politically biased statement but it should not be reinstated

    • Notes: Refers to MP polling statements available – AC to keep these under review
    • Suffrago Response: Accepted, the statement will not be reinstated
  2. The statement "I would vote for [MP] at the next election" could be amended to "I would consider voting for [MP] at the next election"

    • Notes: Refers to MP polling statements available – AC to keep these under review
    • Suffrago Response: Not accepted – the statement will remain "I would vote for [MP] at the next election", using the term "consider" would lead to vague and less impactful responses due to its broad interpretation and scope
  3. The business does not remove its X account, and creates a Bluesky account

    • Notes: Consensus agreement that the most politically neutral approach to social media platforms was to maintain a presence on all major platforms
    • Suffrago Response: Accepted, the business already had a Bluesky account set-up but unused. Noting social media activity across all platforms is not yet a primary focus due to the stage of the business and resources available
  4. Posts referring to MPs should not use wording that could be misinterpreted e.g., "[Name of MP] is in charge here" and instead should use neutral, factual language "[Name of MP] represents the constituency of [Constituency]"

    • Notes: Referred to TikTok video from 2025/01/14 and wording used "Rachel Reeves is in charge here"
    • Suffrago Response: Accepted and will embed this principle as social media activity develops
  5. To ensure neutrality, when contacting national newspapers, all the major newspapers should be contacted with the same release at the same time

    • Notes: None
    • Suffrago Response: Partially Accepted, this is already the aim for standard press releases issued. However not all media engagement is as a result of a press release issued by the business, and any/all media opportunities available will be explored
  6. The Advisory Council would be interested in the potential review of investors where there is public knowledge of their political leanings

    • Notes: None
    • Suffrago Response: Accepted, the business will share information with the AC on political exposed people, and similar, who invest in the business ahead of the submission to companies house
