Should Manchester host major international events such as the G20 summit?

The UK will host the G20 summit in 2027, with Manchester announced as the host city for the gathering of leaders from many of the world's largest economies.

Manchester already has a major events and conference sector, which contributes around £1 billion a year to Greater Manchester's economy and supports thousands of jobs.

Hosting the G20 could bring further international attention, visitors and spending to the city, while the security requirements and scale of the summit could also mean road closures, increased policing and disruption for residents and businesses.
