The UK and the US are reportedly about to agree a deal that would remove tariffs on pharmaceutical products - meaning drugs traded between the two countries would enter without extra duties.
Proponents argue this could lower costs on medicines, encourage investment in the pharmaceutical sector, and benefit patients and health systems by easing access.
However, some warn that while existing and generic medicines may benefit, prices of new, innovative drugs could still rise under the agreement.
The deal comes amid concerns from pharmaceutical companies that the UK’s current pricing environment discourages investment - the zero‑tariff agreement could help reverse that.
Do you think a deal to remove tariffs on pharmaceuticals is a good idea?
