Universities across the UK are cutting down on humanities offerings in an effort to save money. Should they preserve the humanities courses and save money elsewhere?

As Universities across the UK face unforeseen financial struggles, they have resorted to a number of cost-cutting and fund-raising exercises. Chiefly these are cutting down on humanities courses and increasing the fees for international students.

For instance, the University of Nottingham - a Russell Group University - has decided to scrap all its language and music courses starting in the 2026/27 academic years. 

This comes amidst a renewed push by the political parties of the UK to reduce the number of so-called "mickey mouse" degrees.
