In Glasgow City an Adult day ticket costs £5.90 with First Bus, £5.75 with McGill’s and £5.50 with Stagecoach.
In Scotland, people aged 5-21, over 60, or disabled can travel for free by bus, but the rest are facing rising fares.
For example, in 2025, First Bus increased the prices of some tickets by 5-10%.
FirstBus said it was necessary to meet inflationary pressures due to rising fuel and maintenance costs.
But you also have to consider that while costs for bus companies are increasing, so are their profits.
For example, FirstBus reported an operating profit of £96 million, up by £12.4 million in 2025.
That said, the current prices may reflect a better experience for bus users, greater efficiency and decarbonisation of the fleet.
