Should the parents of the Southport attacker face tougher scrutiny for their role?

Police are re-examining the actions of Axel Rudakubana’s parents following their testimony at the Southport Inquiry.

Their son murdered three young girls and injured eight others in July 2024, despite years of violent behaviour.

His father admitted to hiding a machete Rudakubana ordered online and failing to alert authorities, even after warnings from teachers and signs of a potential attack.

The victims’ families argue the parents should be held accountable for staying silent.

Detectives will now review whether new information given at the inquiry warrants reopening a criminal investigation.

Are the police right to consider further action against the attacker's parents?
